Northrop Grumman Holds First CEESIM Users' Conference in the UK

LONDON, March 15 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) held the first UK conference for users of its combat electromagnetic environment simulator (CEESIM) systems aimed at updating users on system developments and identifying potential opportunities for improving system performance and customer service.

More than thirty military and civilian personnel from the user community as well as representatives from the UK Ministry of Defence attended the conference in Peterborough on March 15. A team of specialists in all aspects of CEESIM engineering and support from Northrop Grumman also joined the conference.

The Northrop Grumman CEESIM system is an industry-leading, advanced technology simulator, which generates complex dynamic electromagnetic environments to simulate true-to-war conditions, enabling military specialists to test and evaluate the performance of advanced electronic warfare systems such as radar warning receivers and electronic countermeasures and signals intelligence systems.

Future in-country UK support capability will be provided at Northrop Grumman's facility at Market Deeping, near Peterborough.

"Aircraft defensive aids systems are a vital part of the modern battlefield environment and being able to test these electronic warfare systems in accurately simulated combat conditions is critical to mission performance," said John Stanfill, president of Northrop Grumman Amherst Systems. "This conference is an important opportunity for us to brief the user community on the latest capabilities of the system and to understand user requirements so that we can continually improve the quality of the system."

Graham Thornton, vice-president of business development for Northrop Grumman UK added, "This is an important opportunity for Northrop Grumman to raise the profile of some of its most sophisticated technology among an important user group in the UK. The Defence Industrial Strategy emphasises the need to build UK-based technical capability and being able to provide support for the CEESIM systems at our facility near Peterborough is further progress towards Northrop Grumman achieving that aim."

Northrop Grumman's CEESIM is currently used to support the majority of the RAF's front line aircraft including Typhoon, Tornado, Nimrod and Harrier and is expected to be used to support the Joint Strike Fighter. The company has been selected to supply CEESIM systems for Nimrod MRA4 and is pursuing opportunities to support ASTOR and future Lynx. The principal users of the CEESIM system are the Air Warfare Centre at RAF Waddington, BAE Systems and Selex Sensors and Airborne Systems.

In addition to CEESIM, attendees were briefed on the CEESIM-based Joint Threat Emitter, a ground-based, electronic warfare system selected for use by the USAF for use on all their electronic warfare training ranges.

Northrop Grumman is an industry leader in the production of simulation and support systems for testing RF, IR, and UV electronics, warfare radar warning receivers on-board aircrafts, ships, and ground vehicles.

Northrop Grumman in the UK operates from five primary locations: Fareham, Coventry, New Malden, Peterborough and Solihull providing avionics, communications, electronic warfare systems, marine navigation systems, robotics, C4I and mission planning, IT systems and software development.
Northrop Grumman established its UK corporate office in London in early 2006.
