New Initiative From Bell Microproducts Responds to System Builder and VAR Needs

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Bell Microproducts Inc. (NASDAQ:BELM), today announced it has launched an initiative called "Right In Your Own Backyard" to reach out to small and medium-sized value added resellers (VARs) and system builders in an effort to build new relationships and partnerships with Bay Area resellers. The initiative is designed to make the company's $150 million inventory quickly accessible to solution providers through a 60-minute "Will Call" service and free same-day shipping to locations near the Bell Microproducts Silicon Valley distribution center.

In addition to its role as a leading value-added distributor, Bell Microproducts offers a wide range of technology products, and boasts a particular focus on storage. Already well-known for its success among large OEMs, resellers and system integrators, Bell Microproducts offers expert knowledge, valuable resources and a diverse product portfolio that is well suited to smaller VARs and system builders.

Aiming to add a significant amount of new small and medium-sized channel partners to its portfolio, Bell Microproducts is introducing the "Right In Your Own Backyard" campaign through a pilot program in the San Francisco Bay Area that runs from September through December 2006. The program offers a variety of incentives to local VARs and system builders and features special offers for new and re-activating customers. In particular, the program focuses on what VARs and system builders consider to be the most important feature from a distributor -- proximity to inventory.

Bell Microproducts has a $150 million inventory of hard drives, HBAs, processors, motherboards and high-quality computer components in its Silicon Valley distribution center. As part of the initiative, local reseller and system builder partners can obtain in-stock products within 60 minutes of a request, enabling them to be more responsive to their customers and ultimately more profitable.

"After conducting extensive national focus groups and surveys last year, we learned that what system builders and VARs want most from their distributor is expert sales representatives, fast shipping and product availability, and a robust website," said Joe Cousins, vice president of marketing for Bell Microproducts. "We are responding to our channel partners' needs with this campaign, which offers improved service and speedy access to inventory, and with the October rollout of a new website that features a robust online ordering system."

The Bay Area implementation of the "Right In Your Own Backyard" program will be replicated in other cities that have major Bell Microproducts warehouses to provide sought after services that address the needs of VARs and system builders.
