New 'America's Safe Campuses' Campaign Begins with VCU

Videos series underwritten by e2Campus highlights best practices in campus safety communications

LEESBURG, Va., April 13, 2011 - A new safety campaign called "America's Safe Campuses" began today that uses video episodes to highlight how leading campuses are keeping their communities safe and connected. The first video in the safety campaign is from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), a school that recently gained national attention by making the Final Four in the 2011 NCAA Basketball Tournament. The safety campaign was underwritten by e2Campus, the leading provider of emergency notification systems and other campus safety communications for education. Existing e2Campus clients may submit an application to become the next America's Safe Campus. e2Campus plans to announce a new America's Safe Campus every six months.

"Our students, faculty and staff are always on the move and depend on many channels of communication to receive critical information," explained Mark Willis, Chief Information Officer at VCU. "This is especially true for our emergency notification mechanisms at VCU. Sirens, text messaging, classroom beacons, digital signage, social media and other modes of communication combine to allow us to communicate quickly and effectively during an emergency on our campus and the surrounding community. This was our initial strategy four years ago when we began to develop our emergency communications capabilities and remains true today."

These free, educational, peer-presented videos spotlight the best practices in campus safety communications and emergency notification. By showcasing what methods and policies campuses employ, the videos show first-hand how to increase campus safety and communication. The videos are viewable at www.e2Campus.com/SafeCampuses.
