NEMA Publishes ANSI_NEMA_ANSLG C78.377-2008 American National Standard for Electric Lamps- Specifications for the Chromaticity of Solid State Lighting Products
ROSSLYN, Va. - The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), on behalf of the American National Standard Lighting Group (ANSLG), has published ANSI_NEMA_ANSLG C78.377-2008 American National Standard for Electric Lamps - Specifications for the Chromaticity of Solid State Lighting Products.
This is a new standard recently developed by the industry for general indoor lighting applications. It specifies the range of chromaticities recommended for general lighting with solid state lighting (SSL) products and ensures that the white light chromaticities of the products can be communicated to consumers. This standard applies to LED-based SSL products with control electronics and heat sinks incorporated, and covers fixtures incorporating light sources as well as integrated LED lamps.
This document does not cover products that require external operating circuits, additional external heat sinks, cover fixtures sold without a light source, or products for outdoor applications. This standard also does not cover SSL products for some indoor applications that intentionally produce tinted or colored light.
ANSI_NEMA_ANSLG C78.377-2008 has been arranged in two parts: The first includes information on the chromaticity specification basis, explanation of a nominal CCT and target CCT, details of SSL chromaticity requirements, and definition and specification of color rendering index.
The second part, an informative annex, provides background information, the technical context in which this chromaticity specification for the SSL products was developed, and graphical representations of the chromaticity specification of SSL products.
ANSI_NEMA_ANSLG C78.377-2008 may be downloaded at no cost, or a hardcopy purchased for $60.00 by visiting NEMA's website at www.nema.org/stds/ANSI-ANSLG-C78-377.cfm, or by contacting IHS at 800-854-7179 (within the U.S.), 303-397-7956 (international), 303-397-2740 (fax), or global.ihs.com.
NEMA is the trade association of choice for the electrical manufacturing industry. Founded in 1926 and headquartered near Washington, D.C., its approximately 450 member companies manufacture products used in the generation, transmission and distribution, control, and end-use of electricity. These products are used in utility, medical imaging, industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential applications. Domestic production of electrical products sold worldwide exceeds $120 billion. In addition to its headquarters in Rosslyn, Virginia, NEMA also has offices in Beijing, Sao Paulo, and Mexico City.
