MTS Wins 2006 R&D Magazine 100 Award for In-Situ Nano Testing System

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Nov. 21 / - MTS Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:MTSC) today announced it has received an R&D 100 Award from R&D Magazine for a new generation of Nano testing systems. The InSEM(TM) T250 nano tensile testing system enables characterization of materials and components at the micro/nano length scale within a scanning electron microscope.

"Researchers depend on MTS to help them develop innovative, leading-edge products. Development of the InSEM system is exemplary of our commitment to delivering solutions that address design challenges at the nano and micro length scales," said Sidney W. Emery, Jr., MTS chairman and CEO. "Recognition by R&D Magazine is a wonderful tribute to the talent and innovation of our engineers."

Developed in conjunction with Touchstone Research Laboratory, MTS created the InSEM system to enable micro- and nano-scale materials testing simultaneously with imaging. Through the InSEM product platform, MTS now provides fast, simple, nano-scale mechanical testing without sacrificing experimental flexibility or control. The InSEM T250 is powered by MTS' industry-leading, TestWorks® 4 software offering unmatched levels of experimental control.

"Materials exhibit behaviors at the micro- and nanoscales that differ from those displayed at the macroscale," said Brian Peters, MTS R&D Engineer. "As a result, our customers require tools that allow them to observe deformation while it is occurring. The InSEM device delivers these capabilities."
