MSC.Software Announces that Whirlpool Corporation Standardizes on SimEnterprise

Leading Consumer Appliance Manufacturer Selects SimEnterprise for Enterprise Simulation

SANTA ANA, Calif., Nov. 28 // -- MSC.Software Corp. (NASDAQ:MSCS), the leading global provider of enterprise simulation solutions including simulation software and services, today announced that the leading premium consumer appliance manufacturer, Whirlpool Corporation, has selected MSC's SimEnterprise as their standard environment for their global engineering product simulation environment. Whirlpool Corporation will use the SimEnterprise environment, which includes MD Nastran, SimXpert, SimDesigner, and SimManager Enterprise to improve product quality and reduce warranty costs.

By standardizing on the fully integrated and extendable SimEnterprise platform, Whirlpool Corporation's integrated virtual product development tools can use detailed digital product models to simulate and verify every aspect of product from functional performance through shipping and installation. This empowers Whirlpool to make and track critical design and packaging decisions and communicate and coordinate product development with all points of the enterprise, driving product innovation and quality to new and competitively sustainable levels.

"Whirlpool is extremely pleased with the environment and integration that SimEnterprise has shown," said Thomas Gielda, director of global mechanical structures and systems for Whirlpool, "Our company goal is to dramatically improve the performance of our packaging and platform for our customers. MSC's SimEnterprise environment will allow us to simulate multidiscipline engineering problems, develop and automate best practices, and manage engineering data and processes throughout our entire global engineering enterprise."

"There is a tremendous industry need to address true multidiscipline problems with reliable performance predictions that reduce the need for physical prototypes and provide more accurate and complete results," said Glenn Wienkoop, president and chief operating officer, MSC.Software Corporation. "Simulation information can be used as a tool to help companies ensure that their products are first to market and right to market."

"Whirlpool Corporation's decision to standardize on SimEnterprise is a huge endorsement of MSC's efforts to raise engineering to the enterprise level," said William J. Weyand, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, MSC.Software Corporation. "SimEnterprise allows customers to transition from single point simulation tools to an integrated enterprise solution. This allows businesses to focus on the quality and content of simulation analysis and results versus managing disparate simulation systems and data."

About SimXpert

SimXpert leads to significant return on investment by accelerating the speed and accuracy of simulation; automating simulation processes and tasks; capturing knowledge, and radically improving the analysis process and therefore business productivity and innovation. SimXpert provides the tools needed to extend global engineering processes to the enterprise and supply chain level through SimXpert's Template Studio, SimTemplate, which enables expert analysts to author simulation best practices and standards for global enterprise use as well as to capture simulation knowledge and perform quick task automation. Once created, SimTemplate can be managed by SimManager Enterprise as well as shared with a variety of role-based users, including design engineers with SimDesigner, to drive simulation capabilities further upstream in the product development process. With SimXpert, companies can also subsequently scale and share simulation best practices that have been developed throughout the global engineering enterprise and with all points of the supply chain.

About SimManager Enterprise

SimManager Enterprise allows business to harness the sea of data produced in product development and save time and costs with easy management and integration of engineering data within the IT infrastructure. MSC.Software includes and optimizes IBM technology, including DB2, WebSphere and Tivoli as a part of SimManager Enterprise, pre-configuring and testing these technologies for ease of installation, rapid scalability and aligning smoothly with enterprise architecture strategies such as the adoption of an enterprise Service Oriented Architecture. The combination of IBM's technology, services and integration expertise along with SimManager Enterprise's capabilities provides a complete solution stack for the management of simulation processes and product performance data, ensuring scalability for global deployments.

About SimDesigner

SimDesigner provides an intuitive, CAD-embedded simulation suite that enables design engineers and engineering teams to perform repeatable, fully-documented simulation studies much earlier in the design process. Product teams across the extended enterprise can now create and collaborate on product designs and performance simulations, allowing manufacturers to deliver higher quality, innovative new products in a shorter timeframe and for less cost. SimDesigner gives design engineers scaleable, easy-to-learn simulation tools within the CAD environment that increase first pass simulations, empower more what-if scenarios, and identify design flaws earlier.

About MD Nastran

MD Nastran offers true multidiscipline simulation in one, fully-integrated system and delivers the most comprehensive set of simulation and analysis technologies available anywhere. It is the most powerful and widely-used simulation solution in the world, and has been the simulation product of choice for over four decades. Designed for manufacturers who need to perform interoperable, multidisciplinary analyses on ever-more complex models, MD Nastran helps to drive efficiency and streamline processes.
