Mazak Opens Canada Headquarters and Technology Center

More than 250 customers and guests attended the Grand Opening ceremony of the new Canada Headquarters and Technology Center in Cambridge, Ontario, May 2, 2007.

Cutting the ribbon to officially open the new building were Yamazaki Mazak President Tomohisa Yamazaki, Mazak Corporation President Brian Papke, Mazak Corporation Canada General Manager Greg Papke, Al Miller, president of A.W. Miller Technical Sales Inc., Mazak's distributor for Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba, and Doug Craig, the mayor of Cambridge, Ontario.

The ceremony also marked the 20th anniversary of Mazak Corporation Canada. Mazak delivered its first machine tool to Canada in 1968 and established Mazak Corporation Canada in 1987 with an office in Mississauga, Ontario. Now the new Canada Headquarters and Technology Center is the eighth Mazak Technology Center in North America and 29th worldwide. Consisting of 2,044 square meters on a 1.53 hectare site, the Technology Center employs 30 people and has 11 Mazak machines for technology demonstrations and customer application support.

Canada is the world's eighth largest manufacturing marketplace with many growing industries, including automotive, aerospace, oil and energy services, heavy equipment, and medical. Ontario is home to approximately 40% of Canada's manufacturers, and the Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo region is known as Canada's Technology Triangle because of its two universities and many high-tech companies. The Canada Headquarters and Technology Center is very visible from Highway 401, one of the country's busiest freeways between Toronto and the United States.
