Mararthon Employees Complete STOP Certification

Vernon, Ala. - Twelve Marathon employees at the Vernon location have recently been certified with the award-winning Dupont(TM) 'Safety Training Observation Program(TM) (STOP)' in order to maximize safety and recognize continual learning opportunities. "STOP is a behavioral-based program focused on empowering all employees' involvement in safety, through observation, communication, and auditing," said Richard Saliba, Plant Manager for Vernon. "These three processes identify the safe actions as well as the unsafe actions of employees, and subsequently encourage communication between employees to ask two major questions: 'What could happen if...?' and 'How can it be avoided?'"

As safety culture changes employees realize that accidents are avoidable and safety is a universal responsibility. STOP is a company-wide program that involves both office and plant employees. "Through behavioral awareness we build a culture that recognizes, communicates, and takes action to ensure a safe work environment for all employees," said Joe Fleming, Focus Factory Manager for the Vernon plant.
