L-3 Communications' Link Simulation and Training Division Awarded E-6B Aircrew Training System Program

FARNBOROUGH, England--July 18, 2006--L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today at the Farnborough International Airshow that its Link Simulation and Training (Link) division has been awarded a contract to support the E-6B Aircrew Training System (ATS) program by the U.S. Navy's Naval Air Systems Command. The first year award for $4.7 million also includes seven one-year options and one seven-month option that could see overall program value exceed $95 million.
Link, which has won three consecutive competitions to remain prime contractor on the E-6B ATS since 1993, will be providing computer-based training, instructor-based training and simulator instruction for pilots and flight engineers. Link will deliver and maintain all instructional courseware, operate all training devices and provide training device maintenance and modifications.
The fee for service element of this program requires Link to deliver one Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Level D-equivalent E-6B Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) that will enable key training events to be transitioned from a Boeing 737-600 in-flight trainer aircraft, saving costs and reducing wear and tear on the operational aircraft. Other major training device modifications will include upgrading the visual system, computer system and instructor/operator station on two existing E-6B OFTs.

Under this program Link also will provide contractor logistics support, maintaining the program's complete range of flight simulators and maintenance training devices. While all existing E-6B ATS training assets will remain located at Tinker Air Force Base, OK, the new E-6B OFT will be installed at Link's nearby flight school for the E-3 Flight Crew Training program.
