Kim Lighting to Supply Outdoor Architectural Lighting for Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial
Lighting manufacturer recognizes bravery and dedication of America's fire fighters
CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., July 29, 2008 - Kim Lighting, a leading manufacturer of outdoor architectural lighting, announced today it has provided outdoor lighting for the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The donation is being made as part of Kim Lighting's "Shine The Light" initiative.
In 1986, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Foundation completed a permanent tribute to its members, the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial. The centerpiece of the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial is a bronze likeness of a fire fighter descending a ladder while cradling an infant in one arm. Towering 20 feet above the park's surface, "Somewhere, Everyday" epitomizes the courage and bravery displayed daily by professional fire fighters across the continent. In 1989, the IAFF erected the first of two granite walls to bear the names of fallen IAFF members. The names of firefighters killed in the line of duty have been etched here since.
"Everyday, fire fighters put their lives at risk to protect and save others," said Bill Foley, vice president and general manager of Kim Lighting. "Our country and our families are safer because of the dedication and courage of these men and women. We are proud to be able to 'shine the light' on their efforts and honor their bravery."
Kim Lighting is providing lighting for the flags of the United States, Canada and Colorado that fly at the memorial, as well as lighting for the statues and pathways. The original lighting was vandalized and was in desperate need of replacement.
"We are very grateful to Kim Lighting for their recognition of the service of our members across the U.S. and Canada," said Harold Schaitberger, general president of the International Association of Fire Fighters. "This memorial serves as a constant reminder of their sacrifice, and Kim Lighting's donation will ensure visitors to the memorial will see this tribute in all its glory."
Shine The Light is a national program developed by Kim Lighting that provides outdoor lighting products to community groups, non-profit organizations and municipal landmarks that are in need of lighting but lack the necessary funds. The initiative also raises awareness of the importance of proper lighting for ensuring community safety as well as beautification.
The International Association of Fire Fighters, headquartered in Washington, D.C., represents more than 288,000 full-time professional fire fighters and paramedics who protect 85 percent of the nation's population. More than 3,100 affiliates and their members protect communities in every state in the United States and in Canada.
