Integrated EMS Provider Federal Electronics, Inc. Opens Manufacturing Facility in Sonora, Mexico

CRANSTON, RHODE ISLAND, USA - In an effort to improve its long-term competitive position and prepare the company for future growth, Federal Electronics, Inc., a leading vertically integrated EMS provider, announced today that it will be opening a manufacturing facility in Sonora, Mexico.

"Federal Electronics' customers are under continual cost pressure without sacrificing quality, delivery, or responsiveness. The introduction of our own manufacturing facility in Mexico, in tandem with the extensive capabilities that exist in our Cranston, RI, headquarters, will minimize the risks associated with offshore production while addressing their need for cost containment and reduction," said Ed Evangelista, vice president of business development.

The 30,000 square-foot facility, located in Hermosillo, Sonora, will initially supply copper cable assemblies, wire harnesses, fiber optic interconnect assemblies, and higher level assemblies to the avionics, defense/military, homeland security, industrial equipment, instrumentation/test, and medical industries. Plans are underway to introduce surface mount and thru-hole printed circuit card assemblies.

"Hermosillo possesses the infrastructure, stable operating costs, and a large number of available, skilled personnel experienced in EMS services, making the site selection an easy one," said Richard Evangelista, vice president of operations.

The facility will be shipping product by October 2010.
