Imagination Technologies Demonstrates the 3D World of Mobile Gaming at CES 2006; New Generation of Mobile Phones Rival Games Consoles at Advanced 3D

2006 International CES

LAS VEGAS--Jan. 2, 2006--Imagination Technologies, a leader in system-on-chip intellectual property (SoC IP), will be demonstrating advanced IP for mobile 3D graphics at CES 2006. This technology enables console-class 3D gaming, advanced user interfaces and 3D messaging as well as on-line promotion and marketing.

PowerVR, Imagination Technologies groundbreaking graphics technology, with its highly efficient and low-bandwidth architecture, has now succeeded in bringing console-class gaming to the mobile world. Widespread acceptance of PowerVR by the world's top silicon companies is creating a new, pervasive mobile gaming platform. This has been eagerly adopted by leading mobile device manufacturers and service providers including SONY Ericsson, Fujitsu, NEC, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Motorola, SK Teletech, NTT DoCoMo (FOMA) and Dell.

Demonstrations at CES 2006 will include prototype silicon of Imaginations' new programmable shader graphics technology. This underlying technology has been adopted in the PowerVR SGX shader-based graphics and video architecture recently announced by Imagination.

A range of games titles is already available supporting PowerVR MBX, including Quake Mobile (PulseMobile), Quake3 CE (Noctemware) ChopperFight (Omnigsoft), GeoRallyEX (IonFX), Toy Golf (Fathammer), Solterra (Blacksmith Studios), Stuntcar Extreme (Fathammer), Enigmo (Aspyr), Virtual Pool Mobile (Celeris) and Jackpot Casino (Mobile Stream).

Imagination Technologies, one of the world's top ten IP companies (source: Gartner), provides PowerVR IP to partners including USA-based Freescale, Intel, and Texas Instruments as well as Philips, Renesas, Samsung and Sunplus.

Says Peter McGuinness, Imagination Technologies Business Development Director (USA): "PowerVR MBX is a significant step forward for mobile graphics and has been adopted by six of the top ten semiconductor vendors for their next generation mobile application processors. Indeed, PowerVR is the de facto standard today for advanced mobile graphics and we expect PowerVR SGX to be equally successful for future mobile devices."

PowerVR MBX, which exceeds OpenGL ES 1.X requirements, delivers massive triangle and fill rates along with full 3D features such as skinning, FSAA, curved surfaces, per-pixel lighting and texture compression.

PowerVR SGX, newly available for licensing, is part of the PowerVR Series5 scalable and fully programmable shader graphics and video core family. With state-of-the-art support for 2D and 3D PowerVR SGX has an industry-leading feature set that exceeds OGL 2.0 shader and Microsoft Vertex and Pixel Shader Model 3 requirements.
