Home Telephone Connects with Metrobility

Metrobility solution streamlines management of subscriber services and RBOC services

Merrimack, NH - April 4, 2006 - Metrobility Optical Systems today announced that Home Telephone Company has selected Metrobility's Ethernet access solution to provide managed Ethernet services to local government and business, and to create a managed demarcation point between Home Telephone and the neighboring RBOC network to better serve customers by simplifying their service deployments and ensuring high quality of service.

Based in Berkeley County, South Carolina, Home Telephone provides full-service telecommunications to local hospitals, government offices, schools, businesses and residents throughout the county. As an independent Telco, they also need to leverage other provider's networks for their backbone.

"We have used Metrobility equipment for years," stated Raymond Cowart, network and broadband supervisor at Home Telephone. "When we decided to expand our offering to include Ethernet services, we knew we needed a solution that was based on quality, management and cost-effectiveness. So, we turned once again to Metrobility for help."

Home Telephone utilizes Metrobility's Radiance Gigabit Ethernet access solution for the local hospital and 100Mbps Radiance access solutions to both government office and schools. A similar Radiance device acts as a secure Gigabit demarcation between Home Telephone's core router and the neighboring RBOC network.

"A similar solution using other major equipment providers would have been six times the cost," continued Cowart. "Metrobility enabled us to use our existing infrastructure to create a fully managed and easily deployed solution. As the network expands, we'll be able to leverage Metrobility's CWDM optics without a major change in hardware."

Metrobility's Radiance solution provides an array of operations, administration and management features, compliant with Ethernet in the First Mile standards, to reduce total service provider costs while simplifying service deployment to their customers. Quality of Line (QoL), Quality of Equipment (QoE) and Quality of Optical Amplitude (QoOA) monitoring, along with remote loopback and remote bandwidth management capabilities, enable Home Telephone to maintain comprehensive service levels agreements.

"Home Telephone has been able to cost-effectively evolve their network with Metrobility's first, second and third generation access solutions," said Steven Curtis, senior vice president of worldwide sales and service for Metrobility. "We view our Radiance line of solutions as an important enabling technology for service providers wishing to cost-effectively rollout, manage and maximize revenue returns from Ethernet services."
