Herkules Equipment Corporation Invited to Meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce
Walled Lake, Michigan, December 14, 2009. Herkules Equipment Corporation was honored to be an invited attendee to hear U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Dennis F. Hightower at the Commerce Connect meeting held at the Commerce Connect service center, located in the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (MMTC) in Plymouth, Michigan on November 9, 2009.
The service center, which opened in October of this year, is designed to connect business people with resources offered by the federal government - including research, analysis, market advice & financing options.
The meeting was comprised of 30 Michigan manufacturers who gathered to hear U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Dennis F. Hightower. Mr. Hightower was appointed by President Obama and sworn into office on August 11, 2009.
The State of Michigan was specifically chosen for the Commerce Connect pilot program because of the high unemployment rate, but also because of the abundance of technology and innovation opportunities in the area.
Herkules' invitation was in response to a letter written to President Obama by Todd Bacon, CEO of Herkules Equipment Corporation, Walled Lake, Michigan. The letter was written to express Mr. Bacon's concerns about manufacturing projects being lost to bidders over seas. Mr. Bacon specifically asked "how can a high-tech manufacturing company produce in the USA?" Mr. Bacon was one of several speakers who expressed their concerns.
Mr. Hightower concluded the meeting by thanking the attendees for coming and expressed his assurance that he will do all he can to help their plight.
Mr. Bacon was greatly encouraged by the attention he and other suppliers were afforded by Mr. Hightower, and looks forward to working with Commerce Connect.
