Greer Steel Continues Facility Upgrades

November 28, 2007

Citing a philosophy of continuous investment in excellence as the catalyst, Greer Steel's announced a new series of upgrades, one of which is already complete.

That most recent addition is a new Zenar, 40-ton, top running crane that has been installed to service the company's pickling and primary slitting departments. The crane, which has a 110-foot span, will allow Greer to receive larger coils, thus helping to expand production capabilities from the very beginning of the production line.

Hot on the heels of the new crane will be the installation of a new hot rolled slitter. The new ¼"x 60" slitting line will be operational in the first quarter of 2008. Able to run at speeds up to 900 feet per minute, the SMS Demag line will have the capability to process material with yield and shear strengths up to and including 120,000 psi.

According to President John R. Raese, "Our customers expect us to continuously expand our capabilities and improve our quality at every step of the way. With these improvements and others to come, we have every intention of fulfilling those expectations."

Greer Steel, founded in 1917, produces cold rolled strip steel to customer specifications including various carbon grades, demanding surface finishes, tight gauge control, and edging, which can be supplied as coils or cut to length. The company is headquartered and has its main plant in Dover, Ohio along with its service center in Ferndale, Michigan. Both facilities are ISO 9001-2000 certified and the Dover facility's metals laboratory is A2LA accredited.
