GKS Expanding Onsite 3D Laser Scanning Services in its Minnesota Office with New CAD Engineer

MINNEAPOLIS, MN; September 27, 2007) - GKS Inspection Services, a global provider of dimensional measurement, 3D laser scanning and terrestrial scanning services for over 25 years, is again expanding its service offerings in the Minneapolis office with a new staff CAD engineer, who is fully trained in all the Laser Design scanning equipment along with Geomagic data processing software.

The additional personnel will allow GKS Minnesota to take on a wider range of onsite scanning projects, making the laser scanning option more convenient and expedient for its customers. Demand for on-site services is growing and being able to travel directly to the customer site lowers the chance of having a part damaged in shipping. The added manpower at GKS Minnesota gives Midwest businesses access to the most timely and reliable service available in the area.

Customer site scanning is typically done with a portable Faro arm laser scanner, which makes for super-quick set-up. Small- and medium-sized objects can usually be done in a few hours. In addition to the expanded on-site service capabilities, the GKS Minnesota office is able to laser scan larger objects than ever before thanks to the large measuring envelope of the Faro arm.

The 10-foot Platinum Faro arm is fully integrated with a non-contact 3D laser scanner. GKS' system configuration includes the Laser Design SLP-330 and SLP-450 laser scanners, and a high-end laptop PC loaded with Geomagic Studio and Qualify software. Also, by switching in the SLP-2000 high-speed laser probe with a 8" (200 mm) long laser line and dual CMOS receptors, GKS can quickly and accurately scan larger parts faster than ever before. The dual receptors reduce the number of scanning passes because they capture much more part geometry per pass than single receptor laser probes.

Having a dedicated on-site CAD engineer and a Faro arm in the Minnesota GKS office allows customers in the area to receive express service, sometimes same-day service, without the part or the data ever having to leave the customer site. It also opens the Upper Midwest region to large-part scanning and dimensional metrology services that haven't been available in the past. Larry Carlberg, the GKS Minneapolis service bureau manager said, "With a new CAD engineer onboard, we will be able to provide quicker response with the same high level of quality and versatility. We are excited to have a new CAD engineer join us and look forward to improving our already highly respected services."
