Gilbane Building Company Celebrates Ribbon Cutting in DeKalb County
New Detention Center Addition Expands Capacity in Sycamore
SYCAMORE, ILL. (PRWEB) MAY 18, 2018 - Officials from DeKalb County, Gilbane Building Company and Dewberry came together to celebrate the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly completed DeKalb County Jail Expansion in Sycamore, Illinois.
Gilbane served as construction manager for this 83,000 SF project, which consisted of an addition to the existing DeKalb County Jail site, including 57 new beds, a booking area capable of holding 25 inmates and shell space sized for approximately 56 future beds. The project broke ground in spring 2016, requiring careful phasing and logistics planning due to the tight site in an active civic area of downtown Sycamore. The project also required creative options to bring the project within the available funding capacity for the County.

The new detention center addition is located in the area directly east of the Public Safety Building (PSB) and connects to the existing PSB by way of a new exterior elevated corridor bridge.
