Gene Laminack Enters Leadership Role for NEXGEN®

Vernon, AL - September 30, 2008 - In response to the terrific growth of its recycling division, NEXGEN, Marathon Equipment has created an autonomous business unit for the product group. The decision follows the pattern Marathon set when the NEXGEN brand was launched in 2003 with its own sales staff and engineering group. The distinction will allow further departmental focus in the areas of manufacturing, technical service, and finance.

Leading the expansion is Gene Laminack, Marathon CFO and NEXGEN Business Unit Director. Laminack joined Marathon in 2007. "Creating a self-contained unit of service technicians and manufacturing specialists wholly focused on NEXGEN products was a decision made completely with customer relationships in mind."

Joe Szany, Director of NEXGEN Sales, will continue to lead the NEXGEN sales team. Szany joined Marathon in 2003 as Director of Horizontal Baling Systems Sales. Under Szany's guidance, Marathon examined the needs and trends of the baler market to refine its existing baler line and develop the "next generation of balers." The result was NEXGEN Baling Systems - a line that introduced many innovations to the marketplace now considered standard in the industry.

"We wish to continue building NEXGEN's reputation as an innovative industry leader in the domestic and international marketplace, but new technology is only one facet of our products that brings customers to our door again and again. Precision manufacturing and exemplary support are key ingredients in creating the lasting customer relationships that we desire," Szany explains. "Constructing this division in our manufacturing and support groups will offer our customers unparalleled service in those areas."

Two seasoned Marathon managers, James Robbins and Mark Floyd, have been appointed to lead the development and service segments of the unit. Robbins has spent 25 years contributing to Marathon's growth in the areas of engineering, manufacturing and sales. In his new role as NEXGEN Product Development Manager, he will concentrate on expanding the NEXGEN product line and enhancing the existing equipment through new technologies and materials. As the new NEXGEN Technical/Customer Service Manager, Floyd will employ his 18 years of experience in Marathon sales and customer service to examine current service processes and introduce fresh, customer-minded methods that make accessing account and product assistance easier than ever. Floyd comments, "I am excited that Marathon has granted me the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of NEXGEN. The product line is superlative and our customers deserve nothing less than superior service."

Since June 1997, Baler Product Manager Steve Seagraves has overseen the structural and mechanical engineering of all models of horizontal and vertical balers. This includes management of engineering designers and engineers, and coordinating the integration of hydraulic power systems for each model. Seagraves states, "I think it is the right move for growth in the areas of product development and service. We will be able to respond much faster and even more accurately to the needs of our NEXGEN customers."

NEXGEN currently offers a wide range of recycling equipment including two-ram, open-end auto-tie, closed-end and vertical balers, conveyor systems, mobile scrap choppers, and wire processors.
