GE Energy Industrial Solutions Launches "Energy Optimization Specialists"

New Initiative Employs over 100 Global Experts to Pinpoint Customer Needs, Delivers Cleaner, Smarter and More Efficient Energy Solutions

PLAINVILLE, CONN. - March 17, 2011 - To help lead the future of electrification, GE's (NYSE: GE) Energy Industrial Solutions division launched its newest growth initiative, Energy Optimization Specialists, to help drive energy efficiency, increase productivity and improve safety in key industrial applications around the world.

"With our new strategy, we aren't just selling a product," said Kim Fields, energy optimization solutions general manager for GE Industrial Solutions. "We are combining industry domain experience with GE's engineering capabilities to create and install solutions that will allow our customers to run safer, more efficient operations. This new team will capitalize on all GE has to offer to address our customers' electrical, motor and service needs. By partnering with our customers we can combine the GE Energy expertise with our product and service lines to identify and install the right solutions for customers."

Two years in the works, GE's Energy Optimization Specialists has created a network of more than a hundred application engineers, technical and marketing professionals. This group will focus on bringing innovation and solutions to customers' key energy regions and for sectors like rail, oil and gas, metals and mining and critical power applications.

"We have teams where our customers need them, on the ground and in their region, and they are already actively working on projects in the Middle East, China, Australia, North Africa, Canada, Brazil and Chile," said Luis Manuel Ramírez, vice president, GE Energy Industrial Solutions. "This dedicated team has experience and global know-how to deliver cleaner, smarter and more efficient solutions that draw on products and services from across the entire GE Energy portfolio."

Ramirez highlighted one current project with the mining industry in Colombia to improve employee safety using GE's newest Arc Flash mitigation technology. After conducting an audit at the site, the Energy Optimization Specialists evaluated all operations to identify and prioritize the site's high-risk equipment and developed several recommendations, including the installation of GE's new Arc Vault technology used to contain an arc flash event and potentially save lives at the site.

"We're finding that our customers want partners to help them implement programs to optimize their energy efficiency while increasing employee safety," said Fields. "These solutions apply to nearly any manufacturing operation, including data centers, healthcare facilities, oil and gas processing, mining and paper mills."

Fields is no stranger to industrial processes. Her previous manufacturing experience leading a plant for Alcoa and running several glass melting and forming processes for Owens Corning gives her the experience and understanding of the needs and challenges industrial customers face in their operations every day.
