GE Commercial Finance, Factofrance, Chooses Atempo's Time Navigator For Data Protection

PALO ALTO, Calif. and PARIS, France, December 6, 2005 - Atempo, the leader in data protection and storage security for trusted information lifecycle management (ILM), today announced that Factofrance has chosen Time Navigator to protect its mission critical data. Factofrance is the leading factoring company in France and is wholly-owned subsidiary of GE (NYSE: GE). Factofrance's business covers customer financing, insurance-credit, management and short term customer debt collection.

In 1997, as the number of servers installed was growing quickly, Factofrance decided to unify and complete its data protection systems. One mainframe backup was already in place but no centralized server backup had been initialized. Time Navigator was chosen for its centralized administration, capacity to back up and restore heterogeneous platforms and its ability to carry out hot backup for databases.

"Since we deployed Time Navigator we have been extremely impressed with the product's high performance, functionality and ease of use," said Pascal Brokmann, IT Manager at Factofrance. "Time Navigator's intuitive Graphical User Interface, painless data restores and unparalleled backup performances are constant reminders that we have made the correct choice."

Since the initial implementation, Factofrance's IT environment has evolved. In response, new Time Navigator add-on modules have been installed providing the total data protection of servers, email mailboxes and databases. Factofrance also installed a three terabytes Storage Area Network (SAN) with a StorageTek library that Time Navigator backs up on a regularly.

Furthermore, all data are constantly duplicated on a safe site where a version of Time Navigator is installed in the event of disaster recovery. Factofrance called for Atempo Professional Services to set up two dedicated solutions: Time Navigator Disk File Management (DFM) and Time Navigator Off-site Cartridge Management (OFM). Time Navigator DFM offers advanced disk-to-disk-to-tape and multiple copies functionality in SAN environments. Time Navigator OCM enables Factofrance to automatically externalize its backup tapes. A security company comes every day to pick them up for off-site vaulting.

Factoring companies are financial entities complying with banking laws and submitted to the banking commission control. All Factofrance internal processes are regularly scrutinized by auditors mandated by the banking commission. New legal constraints along with stricter data retention rules have led Factofrance to meet with the European legal requirements (Basel II) and Sarbanes Oxley regulations.
