Garlock Awarded NYSEG Grant for Facility Upgrades

Palmyra, N.Y., October 10, 2008 - New York State Gas and Electric
Corporation (NYSEG) has awarded Garlock Sealing Technologies a $362,000
grant to fund a portion of the company's Palmyra modernization project,
which includes a recently completed, 51,000-sq.-ft. plant for production of
its GYLON® PTFE gasket materials. A state-of-the art example of energy
efficiency and resource conservation, the new building marks the second
major milestone in the five-year, $35 million project.

"Assistance from the NYSEG brownfield incentive program was a significant
factor in our decision to continue to invest in our New York-based facilities,"
said Dan Grgurich, Garlock's vice president of finance.

Jim Laurito, NYSEG's president and CEO, added, "We have a long history of
working hand-in-hand with businesses, business organizations and local
economic development agencies to create jobs and ensure the communities
we serve remain competitive. We are pleased to be able to assist Garlock
Sealing Technologies."

In addition to the most advanced production equipment, the new GYLON
plant incorporates a host of environmental and conservation features,
including a solvent recovery and recycling system that virtually eliminates
VOC emissions. Closed-loop process equipment will save 20,000 gallons of
water per day, and green spaces have been created to reduce runoff. Even
materials from the demolition of older structures have been recycled or re-
used on site to reduce waste.

The new facility also features an energy-efficient, water-cooled chiller,
reflective roof to reduce heat loading and highly insulative exterior wall
panels. On-demand water heaters serve isolated areas, while waste heat is
recovered from exhaust ventilation systems and air compressors.
