AFSA President Frank Mortl III to Resign

DALLAS - The President of the Dallas-based American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA), Frank Mortl III, CAE has decided to amicably part ways from the association he's been affiliated with since 2014, citing a desire to raise his growing family near his home state of Michigan.

Mortl says he will resign from his role as the top executive of the leading trade association representing the interests of the fire sprinkler contracting industry in the United States and Canada, a position he describes as a lifelong professional highlight.

"After considerable thought and reflection, I am confident the timing of my decision is right for the association and for my family," says Mortl. "This experience has been tremendous but also a challenge with a baby on the way when located so far from the Midwest. As I move on to the next stage of my career, I hope to attain another rewarding position in closer proximity to immediate family and close friends."

Mortl was appointed to the position of Executive Vice President in January 2015 and was elevated to the role of President in January of 2017. Mortl and his wife, who are expecting their first child this summer, have been commuting fairly regularly to their native state of Michigan from their home in Dallas.

"Frank has made significant contributions to the American Fire Sprinkler Association, and I highly value his ability to produce growth, innovation and awareness," said Wayne Weisz, Chairman of the AFSA Board of Directors. "I wish him well as he and his family embark on this new chapter."

Following the recommendation of the board of directors, AFSA Vice President of Meetings and Operations Marlene Garrett, CMP has been named as the association's leader until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Founded in 1981, AFSA is the nation's largest fire sprinkler industry organization representing merit shop fire sprinkler contractors, dedicated to the educational advancement of its members and promotion of the use of automatic fire sprinkler systems.
