Foundry Networks and WANDL Simplify Planning and Deployment of High-Performance, Traffic Engineered IP/MPLS Networks

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and SOMERSET, N.J., April 12 / -- Foundry Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching, routing, and application Web switching, and Wide Area Network Design Lab (WANDL, Inc.), the leading supplier of high-end network design, planning, traffic engineering, and management tools, today announced a partnership to simplify network planning, and deployment of traffic engineered IP/MPLS networks.

The deployment of large, converged networks by service providers requires the use of effective tools to optimally utilize network resources, perform traffic engineering, and ensure high Quality of Service (QoS) within the network. The use of such tools enables service providers to offer advanced Service Level Agreements (SLA) and generate a higher Average Revenue Per User (ARPU).

As part of this partnership, Foundry Networks and WANDL have cooperated to integrate support for Foundry's flagship IP/MPLS routers, the NetIron XMR Series and NetIron MLX Series in WANDL's IP/MPLSView. IP/MPLSView is WANDL's solution for multi-vendor IP/MPLS networks that allows network administrators and performance management teams to optimize network bandwidth, and manage network resources efficiently and productively. Customers designing new networks or planning expansion of existing MPLS networks with Foundry's MPLS routers can now use IP/MPLSView to do activities such as:

o Perform traffic engineering computations and maximize network usage by eliminating inefficiencies due to suboptimal routing
o Perform off-line analysis to test network resiliency and reliability by simulating "what if" scenarios to pro-actively identify SLA affecting factors
o Automatic discovery of the network topology with graphical topology views
o Monitor network health by obtaining real-time and historical views of network utilization.

The Foundry products, that have been successfully integrated and tested as part of this cooperative effort by the two companies, include:

o The NetIron XMR Series, a family of high-performance IPv4/v6/MPLS Terabit scale multi-service routers
o The NetIron MLX Series, a family of high-performance MPLS-enabled 10-GbE metro switching routers with advanced carrier Ethernet switching, routing, and MPLS capabilities.

"Service providers require advanced network management tools to efficiently manage large MPLS networks and obtain a rapid return on investment," said Ken Cheng, vice president and general manager for Foundry Networks' High Value and Service Provider Systems Business Unit. "We are pleased to partner with WANDL to ensure complete support for Foundry's high performance NetIron XMR Series and NetIron MLX Series routers on WANDL's IP/MPLSView."

"Foundry Networks has a proven history in providing innovative high- performance, high value solutions to network operators, and WANDL is delighted to be associated with Foundry in this effort," said Jar Wu, vice president of engineering for WANDL, Inc. "This productized support for Foundry's NetIron XMR and NetIron MLX Series routers, combined with WANDL's multi-vendor, multi- layer modeling capabilities offer additional value to operators by maximizing their return on investment (ROI) from existing IP and IP/MPLS networks."

General availability of the integrated support for the listed Foundry products will be included in the upcoming Release 4.4 of IP/MPLSView to be released in May 2006.
