Five Local Workforce Investment Boards Award CMTC Contracts for Job Creation & Retention Initiative in Southern California

Torrance, CA - California Manufacturing Technology Consulting(TM) (CMTC), a private, nonprofit corporation is partnering with local Southern California Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) to assist in sparking job creation and retention with small and medium sized manufacturers. CMTC will provide manufacturers lay-off aversion services and best practices on how to remain competitive in today's economy. CMTC partners include the WIBs serving City of Anaheim, City of Los Angeles, Kern County, Orange County, San Bernardino County and the Verdugo WIB. WIB award funding is provided through stimulus money and will support Southern California manufacturers retain at least 400 jobs.

"We're honored to be working with our neighboring WIBs to assist job growth. California's manufacturers are critical to the economy and their initiative offers a significant benefit for the manufacturing industry in this tough economic period." says David Braunstein, President and CEO of CMTC.

According to the US Department of Labor, over 14% of Southern California workers are employed in manufacturing, contributing to more than 45,000 organizations and accommodating for 21% of total California wages earned. It's estimated that for every new manufacturing position created, four to nine jobs are added to the economy, making manufacturing job growth especially crucial.

An independent 2009 survey by the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), of 835 manufacturing companies served by CMTC reported more than 3600 jobs saved as a result of implementing CMTC recommendations. The report gives weight to the ability of manufacturers to create and retain jobs with proper education and training and substantiate the benefits of assistance contemplated.

The California WIBs are responsible for assessing, developing, training and providing supporting services for unemployed and dislocated workers including programs for youth and older Americans. For more information, please visit www.cwib.ca.gov.
