Fisher Barton to Expand Local Operations

Fisher Barton South Carolina plans to spend $3.5 million to expand its Fountain Inn plant by 11,000 square feet and add new equipment, according to Gregg Andress, its Vice President and General Manager.

"We are very excited about our expansion in South Carolina. It is part of our strategic plan to better serve our existing customers and to go after new manufacturing opportunities. This investment will allow us to remain globally competitive - thereby keeping jobs in South Carolina," said Greg Andress, Vice President/General Manager, Fisher Barton South Carolina, Inc.

Fisher Barton South Carolina, Inc. is an OEM supplier of precision metal stampings, welded assemblies, and heat treated products. They provide low to high volume metal components for a variety of industries, including automotive, industrial, lawn and garden, material handling, hand power tools, transportation, outdoor products, and agricultural. Fisher Barton South Carolina produces and delivers specialty products to meet its customers' specific needs, from the prototype stage to production,
"There's a lot of global pressure on some of our products," Andress said. "They key is we are in a global economy. There are a lot of companies that can make products cheaply. We have to remain competitive."

Construction is under way and should be completed by the end of January. When finished, the facility will have 94,000 square feet of space.
The expansion "is part of our strategic plan to better serve our existing customers and to go after new manufacturing opportunities," he said.

"The company's expansion in Laurens County demonstrates the strength of our economy and business climate as well as the company's continued commitment to being a part of South Carolina's business community," said Joe Taylor, South Carolina's Secretary of Commerce.

The Fisher Barton group of companies was formed in 1973. The owner, Richard Wilkey, a Wisconsin businessman who decided to follow the lawn and garden industry and engine manufacturers to the Southeast, bought a failing company in Fountain Inn in 1993, later expanding it. This is the second major expansion for the facility.
