Firwin Corp Announces ISO 9001: 2000 Certification
Firwin Corp, a Toronto-based manufacturer of removable insulation blankets, reached a major milestone recently, obtaining ISO 9001: 2000 certification.
"Quality and customer service has always been our priority", said Paul Herman, Firwin's president. "Although we had been working towards the ISO quality standard for years, we had not, until recently, felt the need to formalize our internal processes; but with the growth of Firwin over the past few years, it became apparent that we were not only ready for ISO, but that we would require it to keep our business running at its optimal level".
As anyone who has been involved in the ISO certification process can attest, it can be quite the undertaking. Firwin appointed Chris Heck, Manager of Hard Coat, Cutting, and Inventory, to oversee the certification process, as well as hiring an outside consultant to provide guidance. "The entire process from beginning to end lasted around a year," said Chris. "It involved personnel from almost every part of the company, from marketing to design to production to shipping," added Chris.
The final audit was done by BSI, and lasted 2 days, after which Firwin was awarded its ISO 9001: 2000 certification. "It was really an eye-opening process", notes Paul. "From the outset, we were determined to view the ISO requirements not as a burden that we had to comply with, but as an educational experience that could truly help Firwin improve its quality and communication processes - and I believe that it has."
With its ISO 9001: 2000 certification now in place, Firwin Corp has taken another step forward in its pursuit of superior quality and customer service.
