ESCA Soda Blast Opens New Facility in Hatfield, PA

ESCA Soda Blast, LLC has opened a large-scale soda blast facility in Hatfield, 30 minutes north of Philadelphia. Soda blasting is a lot like sandblasting, but uses a specially designed baking soda formula developed by Arm and Hammer called ARMEX Blast Media.

ARMEX is classified as a soft abrasive, and was originally used during the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. Using baking soda for abrasive blasting is a chemical-free, very green method for all sorts of paint and coating removal.

What's unique about Soda Blasting versus other forms of abrasive blasting is that Baking Soda will not damage or profile the original surface. Two great uses for Soda Blasting are automotive depainting (it will not even damage the fiberglass on a Corvette) and Boat bottom stripping - it removes the marine paint, but doesn't harm the gel coat.

Soda Blasting has become so popular that it is now catching on in the commercial and industrial sector. ESCA's facility is designed to handle both small and large vehicles (including a full size tractor trailer!), soft metal industrial parts and machinery, castings and molds, and any other item where traditional coating removal approaches haven't worked or are considered too risky.

"Soda blasting has been around for years," states Jeff Paduano, owner of ESCA Soda Blast, "but it never really took off until recently. What amazes most people is the speed and effectiveness of soda blasting when compared to other, more traditional methods.

"Let's face it, effective chemical strippers work for a reason - they contain heavy doses of toxic solvents. Not only are they unsafe to be around, but they cost a small fortune to dispose of properly. Sandblasting is also not considered safe - exposure to its residual dust can cause Silicosis, a serious form of lung disease.

"We've been around for 25 years, and we built this new facility in order to give companies a truly green alternative when they need an item blasted. We also have the ability to go to our customer's place of business and perform soda blasting on site."
