EOS to Participate in Emerging Technology Center at IMTS Show
Laser-sintering company's presence highlights recent and future advances of additive manufacturing
Novi, Mich., -One of the foremost destinations at the International Manufacturing Technology Show 2010 (Sept. 13-18, Chicago, Ill.) will be the Emerging Technology Center (ETC), where the IMTS showcases innovations that represent the future of manufacturing. This year EOS, the world-leading manufacturer in laser-sintering systems for plastics and metals, will join a select group of other companies in presenting and discussing recent industrial advances and achievements.
The theme for the 2010 ETC is "Knowledge-Based," which applies to manufacturing, people and technology. The Center, located in the North Building Lobby (Booth N-650) of McCormick Place, is being presented by the Association for Manufacturing Technology (IMTS' parent organization) in partnership with the Society for Manufacturing Engineers (SME).

"As the world's leading professional society advancing manufacturing knowledge, SME was an early promoter of advancements in additive manufacturing and micro- and nano-manufacturing. We'll be providing the ETC with information specific to additive manufacturing and its cost-saving benefits for a company's production cycle. What was once rapid prototyping is now a multi-part manufacturing advantage as a result of advancements in equipment, materials and supporting technologies such as 3D imaging. "

Previous innovations highlighted at the ETC include predictive modeling, optimization, smart machining, and nanotechnology and micro-machining. In addition to additive manufacturing, this year the Center will focus on cloud computing, MTConnect® open interoperability standards and nanotechnology. The ETC will also screen a 3D movie showcasing the featured technologies.
Attendees can also visit EOS at South Booth #8754, where it will be co-exhibiting with AgieCharmilles GF. Recently the two companies announced development of a joint process chain for toolmaking that combines AgieCharmilles' highly accurate machining capabilities with EOS' additive manufacturing process for creating efficient molds with optimized, conformal cooling channels.
