Enser Corp successfully engineers a Power Roller System for Parson’s 660MW Generators- the World’s biggest Power Roller
Enser Corporation, located in Cinnaminson, NJ, was contacted by Siemens Energy to provide a Power Roller System for DRAX Power in the UK. This project was critical for DRAX Power Station as it generates 7% of the UK’s power with (6) 660 MW generators at this facility.
The Power Roller System is designed to allow the stator core to be rotated as the core is wound, allowing bars to be installed at the optimum position, improving handling, safety and quality. The generator is one of the most important components in a power plant facility. Generators are subjected to high electrical, thermal and mechanical stressors. Because of the high thermal-mechanical stresses, over time the stator core may be severely impacted.
Enser designed the new 3 roller power roller system; installed, the load capacity was increased to 360 metric tons with a safety factor of 1.5. The ease of use of the power rollers has changed how the majority of the rewind activities are carried out. In addition to the improvement of bar installation, the new system has allowed for improvements in many areas including NDT testing, inspections, painting and instrumentation.
