Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. Crosses International Borders
BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 29 -- As electric demand continues to rise, the need for demand response becomes more evident. The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) in Ontario, Canada has expressed interest in demand response services and Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. (ECS), has decided to use their experience and success to bring their PowerPay Ontario programme to Canada.
ECS, based in Buffalo, New York, is the largest privately held demand response provider in the United States and plans to use their proximity to the Canadian border to bring a successful demand response programme to the province.
The transition into the international market was a natural choice. ECS joined the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association and received their Extra Provincial License, allowing them to expand into the Canadian marketplace.
ECS has developed a programme based on 'best effort' performances and never levies financial penalties against participating companies. This is a programme that provides for advanced notification when the electric grid becomes unstable and allows participants to choose their method of reduction. In exchange for agreeing to reduce electric when called upon (usually during the highest demand days of the summer), participants are paid significant dollars and further reduce their carbon footprint. The programme is subject to final approval by the OPA.
In an effort to help their client base achieve their maximum performance level, ECS will provide at no cost to the participant, a demand response audit that will outline and suggest when and where energy can be saved with minimal effect on production levels. In most cases, advanced smart metering systems are installed at no cost to the participant. These meters measure data during an event, but can also be utilized to more effectively manage the energy load at the facility.
