Endeavor Information Systems(TM) Announces Major Product Line Changes Including the Renaming of Several Key Technology Offerings

Endeavor's New Naming System Reflects the Significance and Depth of the Product Changes While Further Highlighting the Unique Capabilities of Each Program
SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 20 -- Introduced today at the kick-off of ALA Midwinter 2006, Endeavor Information Systems (http://www.endinfosys.com/) -- the leading provider of library management software -- announced that it is implementing several major changes to many of its key product offerings, complete with new naming for those products affected.
Changes to the Endeavor product family begin with what is now being referred to as the Endeavor foundation layer of technology. This product group consists of Voyager(TM), Meridian(TM), Curator(TM) (the new name for what was formerly ENCompass(TM) for Digital Collections) and Journals Onsite(TM) (formerly ENCompass for Journals Onsite). The foundation layer products are rich data repositories and each are designed to manage a different type of library content: physical assets, E-Resources, digital objects and e-journals.
"The new Curator name serves as a strong indication of Endeavor's long term commitment to supplying industry-leading technology for the curation of digital collections," said Roland Dietz, Endeavor's President and CEO. The debut of Curator will occur in mid-2006 and feature major architectural changes in terms of support for XML schemas to handle new metadata standards. "With regard to Journals Onsite, this simplified name further reflects Endeavor's retirement of the ENCompass brand name," Dietz added.
Sitting on top of the company's foundation layer is their new Endeavor Discovery(TM) layer, a family of front-end utility tools that enable users to better access library resources. Discovery: Finder(TM) (formerly ENCompass for Resource Access) is the first utility within the Endeavor Discovery suite. Built upon industry-leading technology licensed from TDNet(TM), Discovery: Finder is a completely re-architected tool for federated searching across external and internal resources. Look for more utility products will be added to the Endeavor Discovery layer in the months ahead.
Furthermore, the company announced its analysis and reporting layer, Endeavor Analyzer(TM) (formerly referred to as Endeavor Reporting). Endeavor Analyzer is a comprehensive reporting and analysis add-on module that enables libraries to make data-driven decisions regarding their library collections. Based on industry-leading business intelligence technology, Endeavor Analyzer delivers sophisticated, yet easy-to-use reporting and analytic capabilities to libraries that wish to increase service and satisfaction levels as well as improve efficiency and productivity levels while decreasing operating costs.
"Significant product line changes such as these can really only be communicated appropriately by renaming the products affected. Given the scope of the changes that are taking place, keeping the same names would have been quite confusing -- particularly within the set of ENCompass-branded products," said Sara Randall, Endeavor's Director of Strategic Products. "These changes also reflect our desire to more closely align the Endeavor product names with the particular functions they perform."
Details concerning the features of the individual products and the plan for transitioning current Endeavor customers to the new versions will be released in the coming weeks.
