Emerson Network Power Surge Protection Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Binghamton, NY (April 6, 2011) - Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR), and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity(TM) is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Emerson Network Power Surge Protection division on April 6, 2011.

"We are pleased to have been an important part of the local community for the past 40 years," says William C. Fierle, president of Emerson Network Power Surge Protection. "We're looking forward to many more."

Established in 1971 as a consulting engineering company called Control Concepts Corporation, the company quickly capitalized on opportunities that came from its relationship with Corning Glass Corporation. To protect its client's production process from power disturbances, the company developed a patented technology known as Islatrol(TM) Active Tracking Filters(TM). Islatrol(TM) has since become an industry standard.

In 1990, Control Concepts was acquired by Liebert Corporation, a subsidiary of Emerson. In 1997, Edco Inc. was acquired, allowing Emerson to add low-voltage surge protection devices to its product portfolio. Then, in 2000, Emerson created Centers of Expertise, whereby Liebert and Control Concepts became part of Emerson Network Power. In 2007, the surge protection business was officially designated as Emerson Network Power Surge Protection, Incorporated, with Edco becoming a brand name.

"We've continued to invest in this community, and we remain dedicated to our roots," says Fierle. "In 2009, we opened our brand-new corporate headquarters here in Binghamton."

The company also opened a state-of-the-art test lab designed to significantly enhance product safety and performance for its surge protection devices. Today, Emerson Network Power Surge Protection employs more than 55 people in Binghamton.

"There are not many similar facilities anywhere in the world - and when you combine this investment and infrastructure with our skilled researchers and engineers, Emerson Network Power will continue to innovate and be the leader in our industry," notes Fierle.
