E-J Electric Installation Co. Joins For $1.9B Design-Build Commuter Rail Expansion of Long Island Railroad

NEW YORK, Sept. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- E-J Electric Installation Co. (E-J Electric) is pleased to announce the award of a subcontract for the systems, electrical and transmission line work by the tri-venture of firms tapped for the $1.9 billion design-build commuter rail expansion of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). The project adds a new 9.8-mile third track and critical capacity for LIRR's heavily used main tracks.

The Trusted Choice for New York's Commuters
The site, from Floral Park to Hicksville, is in the top two busiest commuter rail lines in North America, transporting over 300,000 passengers daily. By constructing the third track within the existing right-of-way with technologically advanced methods, the project team implements an approach that significantly reduces construction impacts. The long-awaited enhancements included in the project's scope create a safer, more reliable network with reduced delays and faster commuting.

The initiative also includes expansion of eight existing LIRR bridges over local streets, improvements to six stations and the elimination of seven street-level grade crossings, ensuring better safety. E-J assists with these related improvements to railroad infrastructure by helping provide upgraded signal, traction power and communication systems.

Ensuring the Future of Public Transit
"We are proud to be the electrical contractor of choice for large-scale projects in the public sector and we look forward to working with our project partners in ensuring a safer, more reliable commuter rail line of the future," said E-J Electric President & CEO Anthony E. Mann. "This critical infrastructure impacts the lives of so many in the region and is essential to the continued economic success of the metropolitan area. It is an honor to win a spot with this exceptional project team."
