Dialog Awards Scholarship to Simmons College's Jamie Emery

BALTIMORE, MD, USA, (June 12, 2006) - Dialog (http://www.dialog.com), a Thomson business, announced today that Jamie Emery, a graduate student at Simmons College, Boston, has been awarded its 2006 Roger K. Summit Scholarship for North America. The US$5,000 award will help Emery to continue to pursue his Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science.

Dialog made the announcement during a special ceremony at the Annual Conference of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) meeting here this week.

Dialog awards two scholarships annually, one each to a graduate student enrolled in an accredited library or information sciences program in the Americas and one in Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa. The Scholarship is named in honor of Dialog founder and Chairman Emeritus Roger K. Summit, a pioneer in developing the technology behind online information retrieval.

"It is a pleasure to present Jamie with this year's Roger K. Summit Scholarship award," said Libby Trudell, senior vice president of information professional market development. "Jamie has all of the qualities that future information professionals must possess, especially the passion for helping others. Jamie's enthusiasm for librarianship and his experience in the higher education field will serve him well in his career."

Emery has worked in the higher education field for more than 10 years. Prior to his studies at Simmons College, Emery worked as an admissions counselor at Castleton State College, Castleton, Vermont, and later held positions in college housing at the University of Connecticut. He also holds a bachelor of arts in history from Castleton State College, Castleton, Vermont, and a master of science in student affairs in higher education from Colorado State University, Fort Collins.

"I am very honored to be selected as the 2006 recipient of the Roger K. Summit Scholarship," Emery said. "Initially interested in academic libraries, I am also drawn to the ethos of public librarianship, and am intrigued by the work of corporate librarians, as well, which is why I chose to pursue my degree from Simmons. I enjoy finding information to help people accomplish their goals."
