Davis-Standard Welcomes Customers and Vendors to Pawcatuck for Medical Tubing Symposium
Pawcatuck, Conn. – A recent medical tubing symposium held at Davis-Standard's Technical Center in Pawcatuck, Conn., introduced customers to new medical tubing advancements, new Davis-Standard medline capabilities and vendor technology. Customers also witnessed live medical tubing demonstrations on a fully equipped line in Davis-Standard's clean room where engineers ran FEP tubing with barium sulfite stripes followed by alternate polymer tubing. More than 30 customers and 15 vendors participated in the two-day symposium held in late October.
"This was our first medical tubing symposium in a number of years and it was a great success," said Kevin Dipollino, Davis-Standard's Product Manager of Pipe, Profile Tubing Systems. "We presented a variety of technical talks covering advances in medical tubing, including alternate polymer, micro bore bump tubing and FEP technology. Our vendors shared information on die designs, vacuum sizing and guage control. The two-day symposium concluded each afternoon with line demonstrations in our clean room, which tied everything together. We look forward to hosting more in the future."
The medical tubing lab line at Davis-Standard features two MEDD (Medical Extruder Direct Drive) extruders and associated downstream equipment located in a climate-controlled "clean room” environment. Customers are able to test new resins, make parts for proof-of-concept, and conduct downstream RD prior to making large capital equipment investments. The line is extremely versatile and set up to run multiple resins. It also incorporates Davis-Standard's patented alternate polymer technology with all components monitored and controlled by the EPIC III® control system.
"This symposium was very informative and well worth the time to attend," said Loren Bridges, Manufacturing Engineer for Extrusion at Lake Region Medical. "The demonstration of the three-stripe FEP tubing was impressive and a fitting introduction to Davis-Standard's medical lab. We appreciated hearing from vendors in a smaller setting, and the format was excellent from start to finish. I am going to encourage co-workers to attend future Davis-Standard symposiums."
