DALSA to Present on Advances in Color Machine Vision and the GigE Vision Standard at The Vision Show


WATERLOO, Ontario - DALSA Corporation [TSX: DSA], a global leader in digital imaging technology, will present two machine vision technology topics at The Vision Show in Boston, May 24-27, 2010. The Vision Show is the largest display of machine vision and imaging components and systems.

Ben Dawson, Director of Strategic Development at DALSA, will teach Tutorial #2 on "Fundamentals and Applications of Color Machine Vision" on Monday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Dawson will discuss how color is important for a growing number of machine vision applications in food, pharmaceutical, automotive and many other markets. Dawson will address common color algorithms as well as the components and design of a color machine vision. The tutorial will finish with case studies of color machine vision applications.

Dawson is Director of Strategic Development at DALSA's Industrial Products Division. Prior to joining DALSA, Dawson was Director of Research and Development at Imaging Technology, and then worked on face biometrics and animation. He earned M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University and was on staff at M.I.T.

Eric Carey, Chairman of the Automated Imaging Association (AIA) GigE Vision committee and R&D Director for DALSA Montreal, will present the most recent updates on the GigE Vision standard on Wednesday, May 26 at 2:00 - 2:20 p.m. in the Presentation Theater on the main show floor. He will discuss GigE Vision version 1.2, which supports non-streaming devices, as well as the upcoming GigE Vision 2.0 focusing on faster data transmission including formal support for 10GigE.

Carey will also provide a technical update on GigE as part of Session # 7 "Future Directions for Camera Interface Technologies" on Thursday, May 27, from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Carey is the R&D Director at DALSA Montreal for DALSA's camera, frame grabber, vision processors and image processing software. He has over 10 years of experience in the imaging industry and is acting Chairman of the AIA's GigE Vision Committee. He has a Bachelor's and Masters' degree in electrical engineering both from Ecole Polytechnique (Montreal). Prior to joining DALSA, Eric served as Embedded Software Team Leader for Marconi Communications where he developed SONET products.
