Cutting-Edge Technology: Reporting from DAMOP 2015

CHESTERLAND OH — As new breakthroughs in physics make the news daily, the American Physical Society just held its 46th Annual DAMOP Meeting (Div. of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics) on June 8-12 in Columbus OH. Longtime exhibitor CAS DataLoggers along with German manufacturer Jager-ADwin were in attendance at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

Technology on display included spectrometers, oscilloscopes and high-speed data acquisition systems (DAQ). Jager's contribution was the ADwin Pro-II Data Acquisition and Control system which distributor CAS DataLoggers presented as ideal for high-speed microscope control applications.

Nanosecond Response Times

The ADwin-Pro II data acquisition system acquires measurements in real-time at high accuracy with precise timing and deterministic control of laboratory experiments. The Pro II system's extraordinary speed provides complex lab applications with a high data rate and deterministic operation with usecond response times. A unique feature of ADwin systems are their tightly-coupled analog and digital inputs along with counters which provide extremely low-latency operation. ADwin systems are designed with a modular form factor with modules allowing up to 480 analog or digital inputs in one system, along with a 300 MHz DSP processor and an Ethernet communications interface.

Modular I/O Cards:

Designed for controlling and monitoring high-speed physics experiments, ADwin's PRO-II-Aout-1/16 50MHz Analog Output Card is powerful and cost-effective. The card features a single 16-bit analog output which can update at a 50 MHz rate along with 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs. In addition to a point-by-point output mode, the card's onboard coprocessor and memory buffer allows users to generate complex arbitrary waveforms or ramp signals independent of the main system processor. This module is popular for use in complex applications such as scanning microscopy, Magneto Optical Traps (MOT), Quadrapole Ion Traps (QIT) or Quadrapole Ion Storage Traps (QUISTOR).

For users needing a multi-channel system, multiple cards can run in a single ADwin system while running all output channels synchronized with each other.
