CPDA Technology Trends Report Highlights Altair's Simulation Data Management Strategy

Hyperworks Enterprise CTO Joins Simulation Automation Panel Discussion at PLM Road Map(TM) 2010 Conference

TROY, Mich., Sept. 22 - The Collaborative Product Development Associates (CPDA), a provider of critical analyses for PLM decisions, recently released a report highlighting Altair Engineering's new simulation data management strategy. The report titled, "Altair Slashes Price of Entry for Simulation Data Management," is now available and details the newly integrated capabilities for simulation data and process management that will be rolled-out with the upcoming release of Hyperworks 11.0, Altair's integrated computer-aided engineering (CAE) software. The report was issued just days before CPDA's PLM Road Map(TM) 2010 conference, where Altair technologists and industry experts will be on-hand to discuss the report findings and advancements in product lifecycle management (PLM).

Hyperworks Enterprise 11.0 will utilize Altair's licensing system, essentially eliminating incremental cost to individuals and workgroups to access enterprise functionalities. According to the paper, "Altair's pricing strategy dramatically counters the conventional view that simulation data management (SDM) for CAE should follow the strategies established with product data management for computer-aided design (CAD), and incur a comparable burden in terms of information technology infrastructure, installation complexity, and license costs."

"Altair now has a complete 'simulation framework' that manages an environment where CAE engineers get their work done, collaborate and share data with others, and access data in enterprise PLM systems," said Keith Meintjes, CAE Research Director for Collaborative Product Development Associates.

"Over the past 10 years, Altair has seen automation move from individual tools to enterprise solution sets to drive product design," said Massimo Fariello, chief technical officer (CTO) of Enterprise Solutions for Altair. "Altair has developed an offering and a dedicated team to make simulation data management easier to use and more accessible, by providing increased enterprise data visibility at the user and team level."

Altair's goal for modeling, analysis and visualization is to bring a high level of automation to CAE processes, allowing engineers to have more time to study, improve and optimize their designs and apply their problem-solving skills to address today's complex design challenges. Altair's seamless integration process and bottom-up approach, compared to traditional top-down enterprises, allows engineers to be engineers by optimizing communication between the desktop - the domain that numerous CAE applications belong to - and the enterprise.

On September 29 at 8 a.m. in a panel session titled, "Simulation-Based Design: Embedding Simulation Across the Entire Product Lifecycle," at the PLM Road Map(TM) 2010 conference at The Inn at St. John's in Plymouth, Mich., Fariello will discuss critical issues companies face as they seek to leverage simulation across the full product lifecycle. The PLM Road Map 2010 Conference is organized by the CPDA.

The automation of simulation tasks and processes can improve the response time and quality of simulations, however many engineers find they can be expensive to create and difficult to sustain. In Fariello's panel discussion, he will share best practices to provide guidance and insight on strategies for automation and how engineers can overcome barriers.

During the conference Altair will also provide live demonstrations of the Altair solutions that help engineers overcome these barriers, including a preview of Hyperworks Enterprise 11.0. The demos will take place at the Altair exhibit in the All Eye on Technology Exhibition Hall, located in the Grande Ballroom of The Inn at St. John's.
