Corning's Allen Dixon Named President of Newly Formed DAS Forum

HICKORY, N.C.  Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, announces that Allen Dixon has been named as the inaugural president of the newly formed DAS Forum.

Dixon, Corning Cable Systems' market development manager for wireless networks, will serve as president for 2006-2007. Supported by PCIA - The Wireless Infrastructure Association - The DAS Forum is a neutral, broad-based non-profit organization dedicated to the development of the distributed antenna system (DAS) component of the nation's wireless network, through fostering a free and open exchange of information and ideas, advocating for responsible public policy decisions and promoting the adoption of interoperable technologies and uniform methodologies.

"As the only organization devoted solely to distributed antenna systems, The DAS Forum will have a meaningful and long-term impact on the future of wireless networks," Dixon said. "I am honored and pleased to serve as the inaugural president, and look forward to working with other market leaders in this exciting endeavor."

With tremendous growth in users and demand for broadband network services, wireless carriers are being forced to increase the number of cell sites to maintain coverage and service quality. In many areas, locating new sites is becoming difficult and expensive, forcing carriers to consider alternatives to complement existing macro cell sites.

In a DAS installation, conventional tower sites are augmented by a series of smaller, lower-powered remote antenna nodes (RANs) placed on existing infrastructure (potential sites include light poles, utility poles and billboards). These smaller nodes are a cost-effective method to provide targeted coverage in underserved areas. The
RANs are backhauled over optical fiber.

Corning Cable Systems is a charter member of The DAS Forum, which was created earlier this year. The organization will exhibit at the National League of Cities Conference, Dec. 5-9, 2006, in Reno, Nev.
