Cooper Lighting Announces 2011 Class Schedule for the SOURCE Educational Facility


PEACHTREE CITY, Ga., January 21, 2011 - Cooper Lighting, a division of Cooper Industries plc (NYSE: CBE), has released the 2011 SOURCE calendar of educational classes for the lighting and design community. The SOURCE, the industries' leading lighting education facility, is located at Cooper Lighting's headquarters in Peachtree City, Georgia, and offers a wide variety of seminars designed to broaden the understanding of lighting and its applications. The SOURCE has been servicing the lighting industry for over nineteen years and to date, over 100,000 lighting and interior designers, architects, utilities personnel, facility managers, retail planners, electrical contractors, energy-saving companies, engineers, distributors, builders, landscape architects, university students and end-users have benefited from the SOURCE experience.

Members of many professional organizations are required to earn some form of continuing education units, or credits, to demonstrate currency of knowledge and skills and to maintain their professional standing. The SOURCE supports this nationally recognized measurement of accomplishment by providing seminars and workshops that are pre-certified educational opportunities to obtain such recognition.

This three-day workshop focuses on the fundamentals of lighting. A unique approach to training allows participants to actively participate and apply skills learned during the sessions. The Lighting Fundamentals seminar is ideal for either newcomers to the field of lighting or those interested in a refresher course. Participants will gain an understanding of lighting legislation, current lamp and ballast technologies as well as LED solutions as they relate to industrial, manufacturing, warehouses and exterior applications. A class emphasis is on specific requirements and exceptions in LEED, ASHRAE 90.1, IECC and EPACT.

This two-day introduction to residential lighting design will be explored from a lighting designer's perspective. Learn to apply design techniques that use today's technologies. Study lamps and LEDs and their operating characteristics, luminaires in applications, and an introduction to control systems. The class project allows you to analyze a variety of lighting techniques in both theory and practice. LEED, ENERY STAR® and legislation for residential design will be reviewed. It's a great class to help prepare for the CLC certification exam.
