Conard's Non-Conventional Machining Processes Featured in Two Publications

Emerging applications for advanced technologies are demanding designs that are beyond the range of conventional metal fabricating techniques. Photochemical etching and electroforming can produce finer and smaller details in metal than any other processes. Recent publications shed light on advanced capabilities.

Everything is getting smaller and smarter. This is the cue for alternative manufacturing processes. The tiny bits that create the connections between the silicon brains and the physical world need to be smaller and finer than ever before. Photochemical etching can produce details as fine as a human hair and electroforming can achieve resolutions of a fraction of that.

Design 2 Part magazine interviewed Conard Corporation’s Art Long and Kathy Stillman for its feature article: A Machining Process that's Hard to "Resist". The article appears both in print and on line. The article discusses the photochemical etching process, as well as Conard's new electroforming capability.

Electroforming, an additive manufacturing process, is the topic of a feature article in MICROmanufacturing magazine. In “Electroformers Build Parts by the Atom”, Conard consultant Carl Rodia explains how electroforming can produce features that are smaller than the tools.

Both articles discuss the biggest challenge that the non-conventional providers strive to overcome: lack of awareness of the processes and their capabilities at the front end of the design processes. Neither technique is included in engineering curricula. As a result, engineers and designers may struggle unnecessarily, and futilely, to solve burgeoning technology requirements with conventional processes.

Conard Corporation is an AS9100C/ ISO9001 and ITAR registered small business enterprise founded in 1965. The company has continuously specialized in photochemical manufacturing and provides precision metal components to many globally recognized organizations.
