Completion nears for upgraded and expanded Sterigenics EO facility in Zoetermeer
Sterigenics International, Inc., the world's leading provider of contract sterilization services for the global medical device industry, has advised European customers that the upgrade to its ethylene oxide (EO) facility in Zoetermeer, Netherlands, will shortly be completed. The upgrade and expansion will result in a larger building, an enhanced appearance, and layout improvements designed to improve product flow, and is the latest in a series of improvements made at the facility over the past year.
"Enthusiastic as we are about the upcoming completion," said Ruud Naar, General Manager, "from a customer-service standpoint, the most important work-that is, the upgrade to the sterilizer control and monitoring systems-has already been completed and is in full operation. We currently enjoy the ability to design and run cycles that are significantly more efficient for our customers."
The decrease in aeration time made possible by the state-of-the-art EO system now in operation at Zoetermeer means sterilized product can be placed on the market in as few as 3 days, giving manufacturers increased flexibility in meeting customer demand and markedly reducing expensive stock in company pipelines.
"This reinvestment in our facility means Zoetermeer can now match 'best practice' anywhere within the Sterigenics Group and be certain that we will be able to satisfy the changing demand of the industry for years to come," Naar asserted.
With the completion of an ultra-modern EO facility in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 2004, and expansion and technology improvements to EO facilities in Anse, France; Somercotes, UK; and Petit Rechain, Belgium which were completed in 2006, Sterigenics has been able to provide customers in the rapidly expanding European market with a 40% increase in EO capacity.
