Clearwell Systems Joins EDRM Project to Define E-Discovery Guidelines and Standards

Company Brings Deep Knowledge in Search, Review and Analysis Applications to Address Industry Obstacles

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 12 -- Clearwell Systems, Inc., a pioneer in Intelligent E-Discovery, today announced its involvement in the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Project. Clearwell joins industry experts Tom Gelbmann and George Socha, along with enterprises and other solution providers in the organization, which was designed to develop and establish practical guidelines and standards for electronic discovery.

"Clearwell's team brings a wealth of expertise to our project and valuable knowledge of the business challenges legal teams face with regard to electronically stored information," said George Socha, independent consultant and co-founder of the EDRM Project. "While the problems associated with electronic data are increasingly becoming mainstream knowledge, solutions and standards to address those problems are widely unknown. We look forward to Clearwell's contribution and mindshare in the coming year, and its help in bringing clarity to the E-Discovery landscape."

Launched in May 2005, the EDRM Project was created to address the lack of standards and guidelines in the electronic discovery market - a problem identified in the 2003 and 2004 Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery surveys as a major concern for vendors and consumers alike. The completed reference model provides a common, flexible and extensible framework for the development, selection, evaluation and use of electronic discovery products and services. The EDRM project is comprised of more than 65 service and software providers, 33 law firms and other industry groups and enterprises involved with E-Discovery.

"The E-Discovery expense and workload will continue to increase as enterprises struggle to comply with the recent amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure," said Kamal Shah, vice president of product management and marketing at Clearwell Systems. "A clear understanding of standards and guidelines, coupled with rapid adoption of next-generation technologies provided by Clearwell and other EDRM participants is the most effective way for enterprises to mitigate out of control legal budgets and reduce risk of exposure. We are excited to join the EDRM Project, and work with the industry's brightest leaders to help solve the complex challenges enterprises and law firms face today."
