Citadel Security Software Awarded Patent for Its Automated Computer Vulnerability Resolution System

DALLAS, Feb. 13-- Citadel Security Software Inc. (NASDAQ:CDSS), a leader in enterprise vulnerability management and policy enforcement solutions, announced today that it has been awarded a United States patent for its innovative automated computer vulnerability resolution system. US Patent No. 7,000,247 which will issue on February 14, 2006, includes 43 claims directed to a system and process for aggregating information on computer vulnerabilities, creating and maintaining a database with a plurality of remediation signatures to address the computer vulnerabilities, and deploying said remediation signatures to target computers."(For full information on the subject matter addressed by the patent, please see the patent at http://www.uspto.gov/).

"This newly patented technology, that we developed and market under the Hercules® brand, tackles the growing necessity to defend our nation's critical infrastructure and information systems against attack, compromise and data theft," said Steve Solomon, CEO, Citadel Security Software. "The Hercules solution is an important advancement in the execution of a previously cumbersome process and need for rapid and decisive administration of security policy compliance and vulnerability remediation across widely dispersed networks. We remain committed to lead the market in the innovation of technology for this crucial and mission-critical area of cyber security, and we will be ever vigilant in defending our intellectual property through licensing opportunities and other means."

Over 4 million desktops and servers have been licensed with Citadel's Hercules® Enterprise Vulnerability Management Suite in less than four years. The Hercules solution has consistently demonstrated mitigation of network security risk while providing a rapid ROI to customers. One of its unique strengths is its library of over 25,000 remediations, across multiple platforms -- the largest library of tested remediations in the world.

Citadel was the first security software company to recognize the importance of classifying security vulnerabilities by class, because different remediation technologies and processes are needed for each vulnerability class. The resulting taxonomy was five classes of vulnerabilities; unsecured accounts, unnecessary services, mis-configurations, backdoors and software defects. Citadel's Security Group has created a library of over 25,000 tested vulnerability remedies, and continually adds remedies to the library as new vulnerabilities are identified, thereby providing unprecedented security from all five classes of vulnerabilities.
