Chambersburg Hospital Streamlines Pharmacy Process and Increases Patient Safety with Omnicell WorkflowRx 5.0

The WorkflowRx 5.0 solution provides pharmacy staff with the ability to manage every pharmaceutical in the hospital

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and CHAMBERSBURG, Pa., Oct. 11 / / - Omnicell, Inc. (NASDAQ:OMCL), a leading provider of system solutions to acute healthcare facilities, and Chambersburg Hospital, an affiliate of Summit Health, today announced that Chambersburg Hospital has reduced cart-fill time from 16 man-hours to 90 minutes after the successful installation of the Omnicell WorkflowRx 5.0 central pharmacy automation solution.

The Omnicell WorkflowRx central pharmacy solution automates the ordering, receiving, stocking, dispensing and unit-dose packaging of medications. It enables the Chambersburg Hospital central pharmacy operations to improve patient safety and staff utilization, while decreasing medication inventory costs. The WorkflowRx 5.0 solution interfaces to an automated unit-dose medication packaging system and a central pharmacy carousel system to manage 100 percent of the central pharmacy inventory and dispensing tasks.

"Although decentralized cartless medication-use systems work well for many hospitals, we chose a hybrid approach with large cabinets in some areas and with cart-fill centralized in the pharmacy," said David Grant, RPh, MBA, Director of Pharmacy and Respiratory Care, Chambersburg Hospital. "As a result, we get 24 hours of medications without the need for extra stock on the floors. If you look at how we worked before installation of the Omnicell WorkflowRx system, and how our system works today, the results are dramatic."

With its new user-friendly graphical user interface, the Omnicell WorkflowRx 5.0 solution allows Chambersburg Hospital pharmacy staff to complete activities such as automated dispensing, unit-dose packaging and other inventory maintenance tasks simultaneously. The WorkflowRx 5.0 solution also increases productivity and efficiency through a unique intelligent hardware recovery management feature that enables staff to focus on direct patient care activities instead of performing troubleshooting tasks on hardware related issues.

"Chambersburg Hospital has taken a leadership position in establishing clear patient safety goals by improving its medication-use process," said Ray Vrabel, PharmD, WorkflowRx Product Marketing Director at Omnicell. "WorkflowRx helps drive this process and provides Chambersburg Hospital with the ability to reduce medication errors, increase patient safety, improve staff efficiency and satisfaction and reduce its annual pharmacy budget."
