CH2M HILL Recognized as a Start! Fit-Friendly Company

DENVER, 30 August 2007 - CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, construction and operations firm, has been awarded the Gold Seal by The American Heart Association (AHA) and Start! The Start! Fit-Friendly Companies program recognizes employers who champion the health of their employees.
"CH2M HILL has not only recognized the importance of a healthy workplace but has taken important steps to create a culture of physical activity in the workplace," said M. Cass Wheeler, Chief Executive Officer of the American Heart Association. "CH2M HILL has promoted a wellness culture by providing support to employees and implementing physical, nutritional and cultural changes."
When being considered for this award, the AHA looked at the types of meals offered in the CH2M HILL café, the walking programs and fitness facilities offered by the fitness committee, the firm's involvement in health and wellness organizations in the community, health education materials provided to employees and the company's overall commitment to health and safety.
"We actively pursued the American Heart Association's Fit Friendly Company award because it was a perfect match to CH2M HILL's commitment to the health and well-being of its employees," said Sherri Boness, CH2M HILL's fitness center steering committee lead. "Employees mainly join CH2M HILL for the great projects that we work on, but the firm's commitment to fitness, health and safety is a reason they stay. It is a reflection of the kind of culture we have where the needs of the client are addressed in balance with the needs of our employees."
CH2M HILL and the Department of Veteran Affairs were the only two Colorado companies that qualified as Start! Fit Friendly companies.
