Centrax Helps Drive Russian Cogeneration Growth

Centrax, the leading UK power-generation packaging specialist, has strengthened its role in the fast-expanding Russian powergen market with the sale of two 5.2MW CX501-KB7 gas turbine sets for district heating plants.
“These orders are particularly significant for Centrax because good-quality cogeneration plants are now clearly competitive in Russia,” reports Nick Royal, Regional Sales Manager. “Our experience of delivering cogeneration projects cross Europe puts us in a strong position for further sales to Russia and the CIS.”
GES was impressed with the extensive experience of Centrax in combined heat and power facilities throughout Europe, adds Mr Royal.
“GES officials saw the typical longevity and reliability of our equipment during a visit to a food company in Banbury, UK, which has operated two Centrax units for more than 20 years. Our flexible approach to delivering projects and our customer-focused ability to forge long-term relationships proved key factors in our selection for these projects.”
Both projects have been developed by a subsidiary of Gazprom and Centrax will be working alongside Russian EPC specialist General Energy Solutions (GES) to focus on delivering higher efficiency and energy savings through the use of new equipment. The CX501-KB7 package complements GES’ range of products and broadens the range of options available to its clients.
Maintenance support for the packages will be managed by the Russian service centre of Centrax while GES will monitor remotely the technical and economic performance of the sets.
The first generator set will power a district heating plant on the eastern outskirts of Moscow, serving the rapid growth of the city while also replacing old heating plant. The second unit is for a district heating plant in Kirov, 800km north-east of Moscow.
