Calvac Paving is Once Again an Industry Leader in Workplace Safety

According to the Recently-Released 2018 California Experience Modification Ratings for Workers' Compensation Insurance, Calvac Paving Received an Excellent Score

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Since the day Calvac Paving opened for business in 1974, the Bay Area asphalt and concrete maintenance company has strived to maintain an excellent safety record.

According to the recently-released 2018 California Experience Modification ratings for workers' compensation insurance, Calvac Paving is continuing to meet their goal of a high safety work record.

As a company spokesperson noted, the Ex-Mod scores are similar to golf—the lower the score, the better. In the case of Calvac Paving, their rating of 76 is well below the industry standard and means that they pay nearly 25% less than what many of their competitors pay for workers' compensation coverage.

"Our ex-mod would Indicate that the average contractor in our industry has 33% more incidents than we have here at Calvac," the spokesperson noted, adding that in general an Ex-Mod score of 100 is considered "average" while a score of 125 would be "high-risk."

Calvac's Paving's score of 76 indicates that their employees are more likely to practice good safety habits while on the job site, the spokesperson noted. It also means that the company's training programs and safety protocols are being followed and are effective.

Calvac's safety program is made up of a number of features, including up-to-date training on the latest OSHA and DOSH policies, procedures and protocols. The company also provides first aid training, including CPR; hazard identification and mitigation; workplace and job site safety and loss prevention and IIPP and Early Return to Work programs that allow injured employees to return to work on modified duty.

"Construction is not an easy field in which to balance safety with productivity. However, we at Calvac are proud to show it's not just possible; for us, it's just the way we do our jobs, every time, every day," the spokesperson noted.
