Bytemobile Opens Fourth R&D Center at University of Illinois Research Park

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Bytemobile, Inc., the global leader in optimized Internet protocol (IP) services for mobile data networks, today announced the opening of a new research and development center in the Research Park at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois. The company also maintains R&D centers in Mountain View, California; Marlborough, Massachusetts; and Patras, Greece. Bytemobile was founded in 2000 by two professors of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, whose College of Engineering is ranked among the leading programs in the world.

"We have strategically located our development facilities near centers of excellence, such as the Silicon Valley, Route 495 in the Massachusetts technology corridor, the Universities of Patras and Athens, and now the University of Illinois," said Constantine Polychronopoulos, Ph.D., founder and chief technology officer of Bytemobile. "This enables us to recruit top engineering talent in specific disciplines that are essential to Bytemobile's technology and business. With the new center in Champaign, we are leveraging the company's heritage in order to bring new and promising technologies to market."

According to Brian Heaney, Bytemobile vice president of Engineering, the Champaign center has recruited University of Illinois graduate students to support the development of new IP services for wireless data networks.

"The opening of the new center both expands and complements our geographically dispersed engineering organization," said Heaney. "We believe that access to the best and the brightest, wherever they happen to be located, will enable us to continue advancing Bytemobile's history of technological leadership and product innovation."

The Research Park at the University of Illinois provides an environment where technology-based businesses can work with university research faculty and students to take advantage of opportunities for collaborative research and access to university laboratories and services. The Research Park now houses approximately 50 high-technology companies, which employ nearly 1,000 people and more than 200 student interns from the university.
