BS&B Safety Systems, L.L.C Marks 75th Year in the Rupture Disk Pressure Relief Device Industry it Created

TULSA, Okla. - Nov. 14, 2006 - BS&B Safety Systems L.L.C is celebrating its 75th year in the industry it created when it introduced the world's first rupture disk in 1931. BS&B is the largest and most established rupture disk manufacturer and the inventor of the most important rupture disk designs used worldwide today.

What led to the moment of genius that caused the rupture disk to be invented? The company's founders, Messrs. Black, Sivalls & Bryson had witnessed the impact of overpressure on oil and gas separator tanks. The men quickly noted that fast pressure rise and volatility of the process mixture required a pressure safety device that changed from a perfect seal to a full open vent in a fraction of a second. It was then that the idea of calibrating membranes manufactured from precision metal foils to achieve a predetermined burst pressure was born.

Since the first application of the rupture disk, BS&B has grown from a small building with only a handful of employees to hundreds of employees located in manufacturing plants and service centers worldwide. With a strong commitment toward research and development, BS&B is the consummate leader for the rupture disk industry as well as for other techniques of overpressure protection including buckling pin valves, explosion vents, explosion suppression & isolation systems as well as an array of sensors and monitors, including wireless technology, to support all pressure relief technology.

"A characteristic shared by the people of BS&B Safety Systems is a rich tradition of examining issues that cause safety risks within industrial plants and finding solutions that others thought impossible," said A.R. Huse "Rod", Vice-Chairman and former President with over 50 years of service at BS&B. "As amazing as the past has been, our vision for the future continuously expands with practical new ideas and designs that go beyond today's limitations. It's what we've done for 75 years and something we'll continue for another 75 years and beyond."
